Part One *** A menacing laugh permeated throughout the large halls, despite the thunderous claps and the rattling downpour raging outside the dark mansion. Under the quick flashes of lightning, one could make out through the windows a small, disheveled figure that lived inside the mansion. "Finally...finally! My greatest work completed!" the figure once again announced and followed it with a drawn out evil giggle. Her pale hands wandered about the still outline of what could be considered a humanly figure on the table. A long and white sheet covered it completely, except for the wooden arm that was dangling down from the table. Her hands rubbed together, visibly worn out and scratched from work. Her tiny, pink lips were curled to a grin. She could have been considered pretty if she did not emit the aura of a maniac at the moment. The flickering of fluorescent lights gave her thick, steely spectacles an eerie glow. "Mark this night, you mortals." she muttered out to no one in particular, her hands reaching over to a machine that had multiple dozens of wires connected to the immobile figure that lay on the table. "Despite your criticisms, lack of faith, and plain hindrance to my goal...I will now..." The ear-splitting sound of thunder hammered down upon the earth, making her jump. She once again giggled. "...even the heavens agree! And now, I shall create...Life!" And with great effort she turned the switch, the machine humming into life and in a moment it was sending thousands of bolts of energy to her specimen. Both the figure and the machine glowed, as the small and disheveled figure watched with a satisfied grin on her face. "Live, Live, Liiiiive!" her arms flailed up and about, the machine sputtering out the final shock that shorted it out, all at once being accompanied by the roaring thunder outside. Clouds of smoke and an array of sparks began to fill the room. "Not again!" the figure exclaimed, and immediately rushed for the fire extinguisher. She aimed the extinguisher at the general direction of her machine, suffocating the fire well enough before it spread out. "Ami-chan, keep it down!" an angry voice came from downstairs. The disheveled figure abruptly pulled off her glasses, revealing deep sapphire eyes that shone brightly under the light. Short and soft blue hair that matched her eyes clinged to her neck and face, which was dirty from smoke and perspiration. Elegant eyebrows met which hinted annoyance. Ami Mizuno, resident genius of Juuban High School. Sweet and pretty to some, weird and eccentric to most. "Yes, Mother! I'm already done!" she called back, eyeing the remains of her machine as she wiped her hands with a dirty rag. "That was the third time this month alone." she sighed as she tossed the used rag to the side. She walked towards the large window of her room and took off her labgown as well. Her eyes watched the gloom of the rain and thunder outside which seems to have quieted down a little after she has finished with her work. "Who are you kidding, Ami." she muttered. "You can't even spawn a mustard plant from a mustard bean, and you aim to create articifial intelligence from nothing?" She wiped her face with her hand, which just smeared more dirt along her face in the process. Lightning struck, briefly reflecting the young girl's face on the windows. Ami frowned. "And I'm a mess." she sighed and stood up from her seat. Dainty pair of hands started unbuttoning her blouse as she headed towards her bathroom. "Forget A.I. I'm making a one-day slimming pill for this year's science fair!" Ami blurted out in frustration, and then went on to slamming the bathroom door shut behind her. After a quick shower, she dried herself off and slipped into a blue nightgown, and went straight to bed without as much another word. So tired was she that she failed to noticed the empty table and the sprawled white sheets along the floor.
